Make a move, Omar

It appears that the 3-way deal sending Manny Ramirez to the Marlins is inching ever closer to being done.  If this deal happens, our two major division rivals this season will have made trades improving their teams, while we have stood still.  This being said, Omar needs to make a move.  A significant move.  Not an emergency move like in 2006 to fill a hole caused by a car accident.  Not a move that nets us a hobbling second baseman, who replaces a young, bright 2nd baseman who has lots of potential, and who could be used as trade bait for somebody better this year if he weren’t placed on waivers right before the season began.  We need an upgrade, either in the outfield or in the bullpen.  I would prefer both, but I know we won’t get that.  With the steals the Yankees have made this trading season, how is it that we can’t find any deals that don’t require us losing both F-Mart and Jon Niese?  Ken Griffey, Jr. was moved for a couple of minor leaguers.  But supposedly all the teams we are talking to are asking for our two top prospects.  Why is this?  Is our farm system so shallow that our two top prospects are equivalent to mid-level prospects elsewhere?  Dare I say there is collusion afoot? (Probably not, although the Yankees’ thefts make one wonder)

I don’t know the answers.  But if Omar does not make a significant move, and this team does not make the post-season, we will see a new General Manager making deals (or not) next season.
