Make a move, Omar

It appears that the 3-way deal sending Manny Ramirez to the Marlins is inching ever closer to being done.  If this deal happens, our two major division rivals this season will have made trades improving their teams, while we have stood still.  This being said, Omar needs to make a move.  A significant move.  Not an emergency move like in 2006 to fill a hole caused by a car accident.  Not a move that nets us a hobbling second baseman, who replaces a young, bright 2nd baseman who has lots of potential, and who could be used as trade bait for somebody better this year if he weren’t placed on waivers right before the season began.  We need an upgrade, either in the outfield or in the bullpen.  I would prefer both, but I know we won’t get that.  With the steals the Yankees have made this trading season, how is it that we can’t find any deals that don’t require us losing both F-Mart and Jon Niese?  Ken Griffey, Jr. was moved for a couple of minor leaguers.  But supposedly all the teams we are talking to are asking for our two top prospects.  Why is this?  Is our farm system so shallow that our two top prospects are equivalent to mid-level prospects elsewhere?  Dare I say there is collusion afoot? (Probably not, although the Yankees’ thefts make one wonder)

I don’t know the answers.  But if Omar does not make a significant move, and this team does not make the post-season, we will see a new General Manager making deals (or not) next season.

The mysterious El Duque; Church update; OF and P solutions?

In his rehab start with the AA Binghamton Mets, Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez left the game after one inning due to “foot soreness”

I’m sorry, foot soreness?  I’m training for a marathon, my entire lower body is constantly sore, but I run almost everyday.  Until he starts again, this will be the last El Duque-related post, as I will assume he is not even on the team until I see him on a major league field.

Apparently Ryan Church will not be activated immediately off the 15-day DL on Tuesday, not for any specific reason, but because the Mets are being cautious.  It would have been nice to be cautious when you put a man with a concussion on a plane to Colorado.

With outfield and apparently starting pitching holes appearing, it begs the question, do we start bringing up kids (namely, Fernando Martinez and Jonathan Niese)?  Do we trade for somebody in either or both positions?  Free agents?  Or do we keep going with what we have.  After all, it has won us 10 straight games.  I would like to see F-Mart up at some point this season, possibly with the September call-ups, but I don’t know if sticking him in the middle of a pennant race is the best thing for him.

Welcome back my friend to the show that…ends on July 31st

It’s officially trade season in Major League Baseball.  Time for all the crazy rumors about possible trades, fans simulating trades on their Playstation and thinking that it’ll work out in real life, and of course, the second-guessing that comes after.

Apparently the Rockies’ GM is on acid.  He’s floating the idea of trading Matt Holliday to the Mets for Carlos Beltran and Fernando Martinez, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com.  I guess fans aren’t the only ones who come up with trades on PS3.

People, Xavier Nady is gone.  Get over it.  It would be wonderful to have him, but Duaner Sanchez got into the wrong cab at the wrong time in the wrong city.  Plus, we have OP now.  I don’t know how reassuring that is, but sometimes he looks so damn brilliant, you can’t help but hope that he pitches like that all the time.  To get him would require a ridiculously high price, and as we all know, outside of F-Mart, there’s no farm system.  Also, apparently he doesn’t want to be traded.

More to come as the trademill heats up…
